Defective Coronavirus Test Kits Shipped by US Health Authority Across Country

Manila Philippines, February 13, 2020 - United States health authorities sent a number of coronavirus test kits across country and it is said to be that the kits are faulty. This was stated by a senior official on Wednesday (Feb. 12, 2020)

On the report, 200 tests kits has been shipped nationwide by the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on February 5. This is to hasten the prediction of COVID-19 cases in the US. Unfortunately, as they test the kits and perform a procedure to verify the virus, the results seems to prove nothing. Senior CDC official Nancy Messonnier said that the kit gives no result neither negative nor positive.

Messonnier stated when one of the substance was used in the test kit - "We think that the issue at the stage, can be explained by one reagent that isn't performing as it should, consistently.”

She also added - "And that's why we are remanufacturing that reagent."

On the report, the number of kits that were faulty is still unknown. It is also stated that 6 US state health departments are asking for comments, and half of them which includes California and Georgia are waiting for replaced kit component in order to make them work.

Meanwhile, Illinois reported that the kit produces an accurate results, and for the progress, they are now proceeding on their own test.

This issue came up when scientists from US together with other countries tried to get an access to the data. Its purpose is to validate their reports due to the number of the coronavirus cases in China are dropping.

The CHC hasten to distribute the kits since late January, in order for the states to conduct their own tests. In this manner, the detection of the virus would be faster compare to shipping all the samples to CDC headquarters which is located in Atlanta. (Source: Channelnewsasia)
