Manila, Philippines – On August 8
2019, President Duterte signed a law called the “Murang Kuryente Act” or the
Republic Act 11371 (RA 11371). This law stated to save consumers from electric
bill’s additional charges as state by Senator Sherwin Gatchalian on Tuesday.
This law will get a portion of
Malampaya fund to pay the debt experienced by National Power Corporation
(NAPOCOR). This incident was passed on to their consumers as a general charge
which is added to their bill. A P208 Billion from the share of the Malampaya
will be used to pay the electric corporation’s debt.
Meanwhile, Gatchalian also added that P172
will be deducted to the bills of consumers who consumes 200Kwh per month.
President Duterte signed
the Anti-obstruction of Power lines Act which will go after the maintenance and
rehabilitation of transmission, sub-transmission, and the distribution of
lines. This act will cover the prevention of power outages.
“The measure is timely
for the rainy season when powerful typhoons barrel through our country,”
