September 20, 2018 – Juan Ponce Enrile Sr. was an apprentice of the late president Ferdinand Marcos but later became one of the leaders of People Power Revolution during 1986.
On its one-on-one interview with Bongbong Marcos, Enrile mentioned many events and projects that the late president did for the Filipino people.
One of the most controversial events that he mentioned was the Martial Law proclaimed by ex-President Marcos and was declared on September 21, 1972. He stated that a lot of millennial kids today didn’t know exactly what had happened during the time of martial law.
Enrile first mentioned our history during the time of American occupation in the Philippines. He said – “I remember President Aguinaldo all the way to President Duterte, and that is my advantage over most people in this land today because I have seen history from the time of Americans all the way to now. History was totally distorted to favor one group. Little by little the truth will come out.” Enrile also added that he is very grateful to Bongbong Marcos that somehow they have this conversation for the correction of the distortions of history.
During the interview, Enrile answered a question pertaining to the alleged issues of martial law victims. He just stated that he is willing to challenge anybody here in the Philippines to have a debate with him about the events.
As the conversation progresses, Enrile tackled the situation of the Philippines back then. He stated – “During the first 2 years, 3 years of martial law, you can open your window, leave your house, nobody will touch it. That is how peaceful the country was.” He also insists that people then were free.
In addition, Enrile recalls an interview about the execution that happened during the Martial Law. He said – “I challenged her, name me one that we executed other than Lim Seng.” The issue that aroused during this time was the subject of arresting 70,000 people, which was not true according to Enrile. He also said – “name me one person that was arrested because of political or religious belief during that period.NONE.”
